Events to get you into the bicentennial spirit
Celebrating Bloomington doesn't end with peeling back the layers of the past. Bloomingtonians can also celebrate the city's present by attending bicentennial-themed events around town.
200 Years of Bloomington Trees
When: June 2
Where: Bryan Park
What: This summer concert and movie screening will offer all things leafy. The tree-themed event will include live music by folk musician Malcolm Dalglish and a screening of the environmental flick "The Lorax," based on the Dr. Seuss book.
Taste of Bloomington
When: June 23
Where: Showers Plaza
What: This annual event celebrates Bloomington's food scene by inviting more than 40 restaurants for attendees to sample food from while enjoying live music.
Fourth of July Parade
When: July 4
Where: Through downtown Bloomington
What: This year's event is the annual Fourth of July Parade with a twist. The parade will have the theme "Where Memories are Alive!"
Bicentennial on the B-Line: A walk through the past and into the future
When: Oct. 6
Where: Along the B-Line Trail between Sixth Street and Grimes Lane
What: Bloomington residents will be able to stroll through interactive displays honoring Bloomington and learn about major historical events from representatives of community organizations.
Bicentennial 5K
When: Nov. 11
Where: City Hall
What: Bloomingtonians can lace up their running shoes and line up at City Hall to celebrate Bloomington with a 5K run on the B-Line Trail.
